My brother is currently stuck in Bali because of the latest volcano action (not that he’d be complaining). My sister lives for her annual Indonesian escapes from reality. Mum recently returned home from two years travelling Asia then living in Bali. She hasn’t stopped asking me to make her Beef Rendang and Sambal since stepping onto Australian soil. Obviously, I wouldn’t make it just for her, so you’re all invited!
Nasi Campur is what she ate every day, rice and an ever changing series of dishes. Indonesian food is so diverse with many different influences over the centuries from Indian, Chinese, Arab, Portuguese, Spanish, English and Dutch. All in all this has made Indonesian food one of the most vibrant and colourful cuisines in the world, full of intense flavours.
It wouldn’t be right without a Bintang in hand, so the Bintangs are on me!
Selamat Makan!
