We finally met Hank, how exciting! We have spent quite a few nights with Hank’s older brother Pablo but were a bit slow off the mark to visit little brother Hank. Now we’re old mates and I can’t wait for another visit.
As we perused the menu I realised every meal at Pablo Pablo has ended with us being too full for dessert. This is outrageous and was not going to happen here so the three of us decided to be pro-active and started with dessert. We chose two; Chocolate Crémeux with lavender cream, Hank-made honeycomb and fresh berries; as well as ‘Hank’s warm cinnamon doughnuts with salted caramel, strawberry jam and fresh cream’. Best salted caramel I have ever had, we licked that plate clean!
We ordered one of the shared cocktail, I cannot remember what it was called but it was absolutely stunning – peach and passionfruit and served in enamel camping cups ’cause we’re cool kids.
First out were two share plates! Whole char-grilled Queensland prawns in their shell with lemon, garlic, chilli and parsley butter; they were huge and super fresh! Potato, leek and taleggio croquettes with tomato kasundi and leek ash; this was a beautiful dish – great textures and amazing flavours!
Next out was a special recommended by owner Leroy, he’d had it for dinner too, Salmon, mussels, clams and seaweed in a broth. And then another share plate; the Smoked beef bone marrow with wild mushrooms, parsley salad and organic ciabatta. This one scared me! but I was brave and I spread the marrow onto the toast and piled it up with juicy mushrooms and it was delish. But it still scares me.
Being naughty kids we ended the night with another dessert, mini sticky date pudding with salted caramel and vanilla Chantilly because HANK KNOWS BEST!
