Caffeinated Gold Coast: Department of Coffee

I like Department of Coffee. The owners & staff are lovely, the coffee is reliable and the food is affordable and fast. Elements of their decor are outstanding, nothing more than the copper drinking water feature. Then there’s the drink menu, floating behind the barista on an extrodinary pully-system and the splash of colour on the table tops that continues with the block-colour coffee cups. I really do like DOC.

This little shop on the Gold Coast Highway has changed many times over the years, it’s a bit noisy and there is usually a few people hanging around begging for change for “the bus” but these guys have made it work. The environment is welcoming, so you can happily sit and enjoy a meal or a caffeine fix. Or you can grab something quick if you’re about to jump on a bus, or on a lunch break or just in a general life gets busy rush. There’s not a lot in Palm Beach to offer you that.

There is a decent amount of vegetarian options, this is so important. I may not be a vegetarian but I most definitely don’t eat meat everything so having more than one meat free option makes me (and I’m sure a few farm animals) happy.
