There were a great number of BBQs in this years list of Bleach events, Sunset BBQ #1 was on my wish list but unfortunately bad timing for me. The Bleach* BBQ offers the chance to “celebrate everything that is fabulous about the Gold Coast lifestyle at this giant beachside barby, with water activities, fun for the kids, cooking demonstrations, stalls and island-style beverages”.
We started the afternoon off with coffee from Dune Cafe, sitting inside with a view of the festivities. There’s a great crowd lingering, people are browsing the Suitcase Rummage, plenty are watching the live music. From our shaded seat we can hear the outstanding Karl S Williams howl from within the high-top tent.
It’s time for our first food stop. Dune Cafe’s food stall features some great Southern style dishes including Cajun BBQ Chicken Wing with Chipotle Aioli, Smokey Herb Buttered Corn Cob with Slaw Salad and Twice-Cooked Sticky Ribs with Asian Herbs. Even though the people in front of us ordered chicken wings and corn and they looked so extremely delicious all three of us went for the Hickory Pulled Pork Slider with Slaw & Pickle. As we choose where to sit we hear the sounds of the talented Sahara Beck flood from the stage.
Ok now it’s time for Paella! I think it’s pretty well known that I love myself a little bit of Pablo Pablo Latin Eatery on a regular basis (Hello Sangria!) but for some reason have not managed to try their Paella until now. Pablo’s Paella is described as “traditional Spanish style paella made to order in large paella pans using fresh ingredients such as seafood, chorizo and herbs and spices”.
